YouTHeatre Auditions: “Li’l Abner”

Gatesinger Company is pleased to announce that Barbara Hunn and Susan Devries will be directing our fall 2012 YouTHeatre production of “Li’l Abner”.
This Tony Award winning show is based on Al Capp’s popular comic strip of the same name. The story of Dogpatch, USA and its unique residents is as relevant today as it was in 1957. With a cast of crooked politicians, unscrupulous entrepreneurs, chemically enhanced athletes and ambitious generals, there are many good roles. Roles include Li’l Abner, a handsome hunk with no interest in girls or work, Daisy Mae, the girl next door who’s in love with Abner, Abner’s mother, the spunky Mammy Yokum, and Pappy, his father, who is no more ambitious than Abner. Also included in the cast are Marryin’ Sam, Earthquake McGoon, General Bullmoose, Senator Phogbound, Evil Eye Fleagle and many more.
Casting is open to middle and high school students, age 12 and older. A song will be taught at the audition. Those seeking leading roles should be prepared to sing “It’s a typical day” and “Namely You” ( is a great resource).
There are also positions for student interns on the production side of the show for students who are interested in the theatre but not interested in being on stage. Auditions are Sunday, August 12th from 2 – 6 pm at Gates Hall, 4107 Lake Road. Pultneyville, N.Y. Please call Sue Devries at 315-690-1056 if you are interested in the show but are not able to attend the audition.
