The Gatesinger Company, Ltd. is pleased to announce its fall YouTHeatre production, “Footloose”. Inspired by the movie by the same name Walter Bobbie, Tom Snow, Dean Pitchford and Kenny Loggins have woven together a series of songs to tell the story of how a town deals with the death of four young students, and a father who becomes distant through grief.
Abandoned by his father, Ren (Ian McKay) – a high school student from Chicago – is forced to move to the rural town, Bomont, with his mother Ethel (Isabelle Collier). Having lost their home, they move in with his Aunt Lulu and Uncle Wes (Annalise Mantelli and Max Henretty).
Reverend Shaw (Abram Collier) influences the town council to pass a law banning dancing after four local teens died in a car accident driving home from a dance. The reverend’s wife Vi (Autumn Pollock) and rebellious teen aged daughter Ariel (Avery Carlson) feel abandoned by the angry, grieving Shaw.
The local teens include Ariel’s boyfriend Chuck (Cirrus Hanna) the town bad-boy, and his side-kicks Lyle (Dan Mores) and Travis (Evan Jackson); the hayseed, Willard, (Kit Hohenboken); Ariel’s girlfriends Rusty (Emma Vos), Urleen (Carley Randall), and Wendy Jo (Moriah Mantelli). Ren’s friends include Bickle (Brandon Wollke) and Garvin (Gavin Buehler). The town’s adults feature Principal Clark (Harrison VandeWall); Coach Dunbar (Michael DiCrasto) and his wife Eleanor (Gabrielle Bailey); Betty Blast (Lyta Dusel) the owner of the burger joint; Irene, a country music singer (Anisha Stallworth).
Rounding out the ensemble as the Church Choir, Cowboys, and Dance Hall Girls are Abby Shehen, Alandra Kunz, Cerralin Galeck, Chloe Nichols, David McKay, Eleanor Erwin, Gracie Burr, Jacob Steurrys, Kai Hanna, Katie Westa, Moriah Gregory, Naomi Atwater, Quinn Henretty, Rachel Collier, and Riley Schmitt.
In addition to the title song “Footloose”, the audience will recognize such hits as “Holding Out for a Hero”, “Let’s Hear It for the Boy”, and “Almost Paradise” giving the audience the urge to sing along and get up and dance. The production team is led by experienced Directors Karen Skerrett Nail and Nan Hanna-Paquin, assisted by Allison Saiff; Choreography by Alisha Scheider; Vocal Director is Katy Kolyer; Stage Manager Mackenzie Wood, and Producer Dan Montondo. Sets design and construction by the team of Bob Gorski , Steve Mullin, and Marty Hohenboken. Collaborating Scenic Artists Tammy Buehler and Julie Kramer, as well as Costume Designers Laurie B. Krenzer and Kasi L. Krenzer Marshall round out the team.
