Announcing: Just Like Sisters

January 8th, 2012

The Gatesinger Company, Ltd. has chosen “Just Like Sisters”, a play by local playwright Jay Hanagan, as its spring production. Auditions will be held at Gates Hall, Pultneyville, at 2 pm on January 15 and 7 pm on January 16, according to Hanagan, who is directing the production.

Cast: The cast is comprised of three women in the 30-40 age range. “Kissa” is described as a woman who appears to be a little tired, and who has seen more than she wants to think about. She is surprisingly game, considering those factors. “Jolie” is an attorney, but lacks organization skills. She is more of an introvert, except where her sister, Echo, is concerned. Indecision is not an option with her. “Echo” is a children’s book artist (as opposed to author) and sketch artist. She is an extrovert who is actually more bravado than anything else. Her true “can do” bravery is only evident in the presence of, or with the approval of Jolie.

Synopsis: The play opens at a small bar in the small town of present day Gettysburg, South Dakota.
At rise, Kissa is seen nursing a drink after attending the funeral of a dear friend. Soon, knocking at the door, are the daughters of her friend, Jolie and Echo. Echo, it seems, has an urgent need to use the bathroom. After several failed attempts at friendship, these three women share their stories and become close. They also drink a variety of concoctions throughout the play, which accelerates their ability to become vulnerable and lay the foundation of a close relationship.

Production dates are tentatively set for April 27, 28 and 29. For more information, e-mail Nan Hanna-Paquin at hannapaq@aol.com
